  • 🎹 A New Sound at the 183 Club

We’re thrilled to share that the piano we recently acquired from the Shriners has now been tuned and brought back to life by Glenn Paul Piano Services. Glenn will return in a month or two for a follow-up tuning and then annually thereafter to ensure it continues to sound its best.

This is no ordinary piano—it’s a Lesage, a legendary name in Canadian musical craftsmanship.
Founded in 1891 in Ste-Thérèse, Quebec, Lesage Pianos Ltd. built a reputation as one of Canada’s most respected piano makers, renowned for their warm tone, durability, and elegant design. For decades, Lesage pianos could be found in concert halls, churches, and homes across the country—symbols of Canadian artistry and musical excellence. They even held a Royal Warrant as official piano supplier to the Governor General of Canada.

Having one in our club is something special. For years, many members have wanted to hear and feel the sound of live piano music in our space again, and now we finally can. This instrument adds an entirely new dimension to the atmosphere of the club—whether it’s played softly during a dinner, enthusiastically during a singalong, or simply admired as a piece of Canadian history.

Please remember: the piano is delicate and finely tuned. It will lose its tuning if moved or jostled, so we ask everyone to treat it with care and respect.

Here’s to many nights ahead filled with great food, good company, and now—beautiful music. 🎶

  • Executive Updates: Welcoming New Leadership to the 183 Club

The 183 Club extends its sincere thanks to Christian Morin and Dennis Laughlin for their dedicated service on the executive team.

Christian stepped down from his role on September 9, and Dennis submitted his resignation as Membership Chair on October 7, both due to personal and professional commitments. We’re grateful for their time, effort, and commitment to the Club during their tenure.

We’re pleased to announce that Eric Boyce has been appointed as Membership Chair, taking over from Dennis, and has already begun transitioning into the role.

We also welcome Bill Pickett, who has been contributing his skills in the kitchen and supporting our events in recent months. Bill has now joined the executive to help guide the Club’s food and hospitality initiatives.

Please join us in thanking Christian and Dennis for their contributions and in welcoming Eric and Bill to the executive team.

  • Updates from the September Executive Meeting

The executive is actively looking for members who want to be part of growing the fellowship activities facilitated by the 183 Club.

At the September board meeting, several decisions have been made that will affect your experience at the 183 Club. Here are some things you’ll see or hear about very soon:

    Entrance & Building Access

Thanks to the volunteer work of Bill Pickett and Rodney McCarthy, the brick half‐wall at the Club entrance has been removed. This was done to improve safety and security for everyone in the building.

    Payments & Point-of-Sale System

We’re still experiencing delays with installing the new point-of-sale (POS) system due to supply chain issues. Rest assured, we’re working to get it up and running as soon as possible. Once it’s in place, payments will be easier and more convenient for members.

SmartServe Certification – A Critical Reminder

All members are reminded that nobody may be behind the bar without SmartServe certification. This is not simply a house rule—it is a legal requirement under Ontario’s liquor license legislation.

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) has the right to inspect our premises at any time, unannounced. If anyone is caught behind the bar without SmartServe certification, our liquor license could be revoked immediately and permanently. This would end our ability to serve alcohol and severely disrupt operations at the 183 Club.

To protect the club, please send a copy of your SmartServe card to the President at president.club183@gmail.com.

If you don’t have SmartServe but would like to help bartend at events, the 183 Club offers support: we will cover half the cost of your certification once you’ve successfully completed the course and committed to working bar shifts at the club.

Please be responsible—our license, and the enjoyment of the club for all members, depends on it.

    Upcoming Events

    • Our next President’s Request Dinner will feature a spaghetti dinner with the usual trimmings.
    • A Halloween party is being planned, with the possibility of a trivia contest and/or costume contest. Details to follow.
    • Plans are in motion to launch a monthly trivia night featuring Cole Fournier and Kevin of Super Fun Time Trivia, who have run their trivia-comedy show regionally for over a decade. You can check them out at superfuntimetrivia.com.

    • The Bullsheet newsletter will now be released on the last Friday of every month at 11 AM.
    • A new logo has been officially adopted.
